DIOR’S COOL WAVE SUMMER 2018… Tifeny Moreira

I am having a Dior makeup moment… it’s a bit early to start showing off summer looks but the new Dior Cool Wave Summer 2018 collection is irresistible. Also irresistible, the combination of bright blue shimmering shadows and bright orange lips! The pigment in the Cool Wave palette is intense, I used it without a primer underneath and you can see how opaque the shadows are. On Tifeny’s lips, I did a coat of the Dior Addict Lip Tattoo in Orange rather than a lip liner and then layered Addict Lipstick in Orange Wave on top. The new Lip Tattoo’s are great on their own but I also really like them as a base coat. I used Dior Pump’n’Volume in 260, a fun electric blue mascara that launches in June.

Note: I rarely post images with closed eyes but Tifeny’s geniune smile (she radiates happiness!) was just as irresistible as the new Dior!

GREEN LIPSTICK FOR SPRING… Alex Boldea

Green lipstick doesn’t exactly scream “wearable” but this shade by Fenty Beauty is a surprisingly pretty twist on spring makeup. With so much attention on the lips, I kept the rest of the look very  minimal. It’s not quite natural but the subtle washes of bronzer under the cheekbones and in the crease of the eyelids create definition without adding more color.  Alex’s brows are brushed into place with a transparent brow gel because dark brows plus green lips starts to feel a bit 1950’s monster movie… which is cool but maybe not so much for daytime.

DIOR DOES YELLOW… Ariel King

I am absolutely crazy about this Dior On Stage Liner in Matte Yellow! I have always had a thing for a pop of yellow around the eyes (click here for evidence) but finding a good yellow liquid liner has eluded me until now. Thank you Peter Phillips!

The Dior On Stage Liner collection launches in early June and includes yellow, white, pink, blue, two finishes in black and a cool rust color. It’s accompanied by new fun shades of the Dior Pump’n’Volume Mascara. Definitely get on the waiting list for the liners because everyone I know is itching to get their hands on them!

Note: For those of you who are thinking about makeup for festival season, this look is perfect for a day of dancing in the sunlight!

Note: Ariel has some of the coolest hair I have seen in a while… and she cuts it herself! I’m tempted to break out the scissors!

BFF’s… Julie Schott & Carly Cardellino

If you work in the beauty industry (or are passionate about beauty), then you should recognize these two gorgeous faces. Carly Cardellino is the Beauty Director of Cosmopolitan.com and Julie Schott was previously the Beauty Director at Elle but now works for numerous publications. They both have popular Instagram accounts that document their beauty/fashion/lifestyle adventures and often feature them together. In real life (I feel like we need to separate that from social media life), these two are close friends and having them over together for a studio visit was a blast!

We decided to use the exact same products and do the same look on both of them, with a few little tweaks to suit their individual features. Best friends in matching makeup, what could be better! With the spring weather warming up, I was inspired to create a minimal look focused on glowing skin with a wash of peachy, rose gold shades. To be fair, these two already have amazing skin. Poreless, smooth, unfairly perfect skin that already has a natural glow so I can’t really take much credit!

Note: I didn’t list the blush or the mascara in the products below because they are top secret formulas that I am working on! Carly and Julie were nice enough to be my test subjects.

Note: I shot Carly for Beauty Is Boring in 2016, click here to check out her look and her bangs!

Glam Rock… Alex Boldea

This look was a total accident… Alex mentioned that she was headed to a club after our evening beauty shoot so I offered to do her makeup. We were talking about long nights spent on the dancefloor and then suddenly Bowie popped up on my playlist. The makeup translation of David Bowie and late night dance clubs is obviously glam rock purple, fuchsia, icy pink and of course, a heavy dose of glitter. I loved the final look so much that I got out my camera and snapped it!

Note: I applied the blush in a classic 70’s disco pattern (a swooping “C” shape from the cheekbones up to the temples) and then patted the Lemonhead Spacejam Luxe in Lady Mercury over it. If you haven’t tried Lemonhead’s glitter pastes, I highly recommend them! They don’t fall out like regular glitter and stay in place for hours. Plus you can use them sheer or build up to an opaque glitter finish.

Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Blush… Chloe Blanchard

Anytime a product comes out that claims to be both lip and cheek color in one, I feel compelled to try it. Perhaps it’s because in the 80’s I would watch my mom apply her lipstick, then lightly touch her finger to the bullet and tap it on her cheeks. To this day, I am fascinated by perfectly matching lips and cheeks (and nails if you can make all three happen!). So when I opened up the latest package from Chanel and found their new Rouge Coco Lip Blush inside, I was understandably thrilled.

The Lip Blush is exactly what it’s name implies, a dual purpose product that can be used on both the lips and cheeks. On the lips, a single stroke produces a stained effect but it can be layered for a more opaque finish. In the look on Chloe above, I actually layered it over their bright fuschia lip liner for a stronger pop of pink. Used on the cheeks it’s a gorgeous sheer wash of color!

Note: Chloe’s skin is so flawless that I actually skipped foundation and just used the Sisley Paris Instant Eclat, an illuminating primer.

Urban Decay x Beauty Is Boring… Backtalk with Iggy

This is the final look of our Urban Decay Backtalk Vice Lipstick collaboration! I hope you enjoyed this series!

There is nothing quite like a smokey eye and nude lip. Iggy naturally has a sultry vibe that lends itself to this sexy, modern look. I mixed two shades from the Naked Palette (Creep and Gunmetal) to get this metallic charcoal eye. Then I added black liner around her waterline (top and bottom) and finished with several coats of mascara. On her lips, I used the same Vice Lipstick in Backtalk as in the previous three looks but I tapped a tiny amount of clear gloss on top – not enough to make it glossy lip but rather just a bit to add a sheen. This is the kind of look that is even better after a night of dancing!

Urban Decay x Beauty Is Boring… Backtalk with Lisa-Marie

Day three of the four Urban Decay looks I will be posting this week!

One of the things I love about showing the same lipstick shade on four totally different complexions is that you get to see how it shifts based on lip color and skin tone. Vice Lipstick in Backtalk is definitely opaque but still looks totally different on each of our four models. On the gorgeous Lisa-Marie, the cool undertone really pops and gives it almost a 60’s vibe. I was tempted to do a classic 60’s eye look but couldn’t resist playing up her amazing almond eye shape with black inner rim liner and a thick fringe of lashes. The eyeshadow is from the classic Naked Palette and I used one shade all around the eye for a subtle, shimmering look.

Note: During our shoot, Lisa-Marie gave me a preview of her upcoming music… mind blown! She is so talented! She is also incredibly humble and shy about it so I was honored I got to listen.  Follow her on Instagram to keep up with her modeling and hopefully get a music sample in the near future!

Stay tuned for our final Urban Decay look, going live tomorrow evening!

Urban Decay x Beauty Is Boring… Backtalk with Askyla

Day two of the four Urban Decay looks I will be posting this week!

I am crazy about Askyla’s blazing orange-red hair, bone structure and freckles so I was thrilled to have her for this collaboration. Her coloring is so lovely that I wanted to play it up without the makeup becoming overwhelming. A subtle wash of rose gold on her eyelids and cheeks looks almost monochromatic paired with the Vice Lipstick in Backtalk. The eyelids are a mixture of the pale rose and gold shades in the classic Naked Eyeshadow Palette. I blended the color from her lashline to her brows and then smudged a bit under her eye. To create an extra soft look, I went over the edges of the eye shadow with a clean fluff brush using circular motions to blend.

Stay tuned for two more Urban Decay looks!

Note: I consider covering freckles to be a beauty crime so I skipped foundation and used the Naked Skin Highlighting Fluid in Aura instead.

Urban Decay x Beauty Is Boring… Backtalk with Alexis

Welcome to day one of the four Urban Decay looks I will be posting this week! For this collaboration, they asked me to feature Vice Lipstick in Backtalk and the beloved Naked Eyeshadow Palette on four different models. Rather than use the same eyeshadow shades or makeup style, I gave each model a unique look that fit their features and personality.

First up is the absolutely stunning Alexis Jaye Sundman. Alexis is a new face but expect to see her everywhere in the coming year because she is going to be huge! I wanted to play up her lovely wide set eyes and glowing skin so I used the mid toned bronze shades in the Naked PaletteBacktalk is a pinkish/mauve cool toned nude with a creamy semi-matte texture that looks good on almost everyone. I skipped the lip liner to show off the lipstick color in it’s unadulterated state. For added drama, I used a set of false lashes with several coats of mascara on her top lashes only. And to keep it balanced, I simply groomed Alex’s brows upward with transparent brow gel.

Stay tuned for three more Urban Decay looks!
